“Take-Two CEO Teases GTA 6 Release for PC, Recognizing Platform’s Rising Significance”

In a recent interview, Strauss Zelnick, the head of Take-Two Interactive, delved into the increasing significance of the PC gaming market, hinting at a potential PC release for the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6).
Although GTA 6 is currently set for release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, there has been no official mention of a PC version yet. This absence is noteworthy in the gaming landscape of 2025, where major titles are often launched simultaneously across all platforms or shortly thereafter on PC.
Zelnick, in conversation with IGN, suggested that a PC edition of GTA 6 could be in the pipeline, emphasizing that Take-Two typically doesn’t release games across all platforms at once. Drawing a parallel with the recent launch of Civilization 7 by Firaxis, where the game was made available on consoles and PC right from the start, Zelnick explained, “With regard to others in our lineup, we don’t always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”
Interestingly, Zelnick acknowledged the substantial revenue potential of PC versions of multiplatform games, noting that they can account for up to 40% of total sales. This underscores the growing importance of the PC platform within the gaming industry.
Despite the focus on the upcoming console releases of GTA 6, Zelnick anticipates a surge in console sales driven by the game’s launch. “When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles,” he stated, expressing confidence in the positive impact on console sales in 2025.
Addressing the delay in a PC release for GTA 6, Zelnick pointed out Rockstar’s past approach of beginning with console releases first. For instance, GTA 5 initially debuted in September 2013, with the PC version arriving later in April 2015, missing the simultaneous launch.
Rockstar’s cautious stance towards PC releases can be attributed to their history with modders, including the infamous Hot Coffee mod. Just recently, the company shut down a mod project that aimed to bring GTA 4’s Liberty City into GTA 5.
As the gaming industry evolves, with the PC market gaining prominence, the decision-making process regarding multiplatform releases becomes increasingly crucial, particularly for highly anticipated titles like GTA 6.
