Randy Pitchford: GTA 6 not to blame for Borderlands 4 delay

Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 just shook up the gaming world by bumping up its release date, but not for the reasons you might think – GTA 6 had nothing to do with it.

The highly-anticipated Borderlands 4 is now set to hit shelves on September 12th, over a week ahead of the initial schedule. Speculations arose that this move aimed to avoid a clash between the launches of Borderlands 4 and GTA 6, two big franchises owned by Take-Two.

However, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford clarified that this change wasn’t influenced by other games’ release dates. According to Pitchford, the decision stemmed from the team’s confidence in the game’s progress and bug-fixing speed.

In a social media post, Pitchford emphasized, “Our decision is solely based on the game’s development status, and not on any other product’s launch plans.”

So, mystery solved.

Today, fans can expect to get more insights into the upcoming installment as PlayStation is hosting a special Borderlands 4 State of Play event at 10pm UK time. Eurogamer will be there to bring you all the latest news.

When Borderlands 4 hits the shelves, it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store simultaneously). The game will introduce four new Vault Hunters and a menacing new enemy faction called the Rippers.
