Rockstar Games Pushes Back Release of GTA 6 to 2026

Rockstar Games has announced that the highly-anticipated sequel, Grand Theft Auto 6, will be delayed until 2026. The game is now scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In a brief statement shared on social media, Rockstar expressed their apologies for the delay but emphasized their commitment to delivering a game that exceeds expectations. The company acknowledged the overwhelming support and excitement from fans and thanked them for their patience.

The decision to postpone the release follows months of speculation about the game’s launch window, despite earlier assurances from parent company Take-Two. The news of the delay comes just ahead of Take-Two’s financial results briefing on May 15.

Rockstar had previously offered a glimpse of GTA 6 in December 2023, originally aiming for a 2025 release. However, the developer explained that they require additional time to ensure the game meets the high standards fans anticipate.

The forthcoming installment is set in a modern-day version of Vice City and features a duo of protagonists inspired by the Bonnie and Clyde narrative. While no further details were revealed in the recent announcement, fans can expect more updates from Rockstar in the future.

The delay of GTA 6 has implications for other game launches, with publishers like EA and Sony strategically planning their releases to avoid competition with Rockstar’s highly anticipated title. Despite the setback, the gaming community eagerly awaits the next chapter in the iconic Grand Theft Auto series.
