Take-Two CEO dismisses the concept of “Artificial Intelligence” as an oxymoron

In a recent interview, Strauss Zelnick, the head of Take-Two Interactive, shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence, dubbing it “an oxymoron.” Despite acknowledging AI’s potential to enhance business efficiency, he dismissed the notion that it would lead to job reductions in the gaming industry.
Zelnick, speaking frankly about his stance on AI, acknowledged that the video game sector would likely be at the forefront of AI utilization. When pressed by an investor about AI’s role in the industry, he remarked, “Machine learning, machines don’t learn,” suggesting that such terms serve as simplified explanations for complex processes.
The CEO emphasized that digital tools have long been integral to operations and predicted that AI would boost efficiency and enhance productivity without diminishing employment opportunities. Zelnick also highlighted the importance of respecting intellectual property rights when deploying AI technologies, emphasizing the need to safeguard both their own IPs and those of others.
Addressing concerns about delays, Take-Two reaffirmed the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, stating that the highly anticipated game remains on schedule for a fall launch. The company’s commitment to its release timeline was reiterated in its recent financial report, which also outlined plans for other major game launches, including Sid Meier’s Civilization 7, Mafia: The Old Country, and Borderlands 4 throughout the year.
